UW System Grants

Special Note for UW System Grant Applicants

The University of Wisconsin System has suspended the following grant programs for 2011-2012:  Closing the Achievement Gap; Office of Professional and Instructional Development Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Grant Program; Institute for Race and Ethnicity Support Grant and Campus Reading Programs; Learning Technology Development Council Curricular Redesign Grant Program; and the Committee on Baccalaureate Expansion Grants. 

In lieu of these programs, UW System has modified the goals and objectives of the Growth Agenda for Wisconsin Grant Program to incorporate elements of many of the above listed programs.  Faculty and staff that have previously expressed interest in these programs are encouraged to review this program's Request for Proposals for additional details. 

Combined ARG-WiTAG Program

The Applied Research Grant [ARG] and joint Applied Research-WiTAG Programs are closely tied to the goals of University of Wisconsin System’s Growth Agenda for Wisconsin to develop advanced human potential and the knowledge economy that employs that potential. These programs promote technology transfer and economic development throughout the state by supporting faculty/staff research. Proposals are due 21 February 2012.

Reassignment Time Grant

The University of Wisconsin System and WiSys Technology Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, offer limited funds to support faculty/staff reassigned time to write extramural grant applications of $50,000 or more. The maximum award is $3,500 for stipend or replacement costs. Proposals may be submitted anytime.

Sea Grant Program

The University of Wisconsin seeks proposals for the Sea Grant Aquaculture Research Program, which supports projects to develop environmentally and economically sustainable ocean, coastal, or Great Lakes aquaculture. Full proposals are due 10 April 2012.

Campus Reading Seminars

The University of Wisconsin System Institute on Race and Ethnicity [IRE] seeks proposals for Campus Reading Seminar grants which support reading groups and scholarly exchanges on racial/ethnic subjects by making funds available for the purchase of books that focus on racial/ethnic themes.

COBE Grant Program

The University of Wisconsin System seeks proposals to support the development and implementation of new programs or projects to implement one or more of the baccalaureate expansion strategies outlined by the Committee on Baccalaureate Expansion [COBE].

EDI Closing the Achievement Gap

This grant program supports practical and innovative programs that are effective in redressing the gaps in access, learning, and academic achievement that currently exist among students from historically underrepresented populations. Through these grant funds, the University of Wisconsin System seeks to advance greater equality, inclusion, and excellence across its institutions.

Growth Agenda for Wisconsin

The University of Wisconsin System seeks proposals for projects that advance one or more of the three Strategic Goals of the Growth Agenda and model Inclusive Excellence. Funding will be used to support two broad categories of initiatives: Institutional Change Grants and Conference and Professional Development Grants. Proposals are due 13 February 2012.

Groundwater Research

The University of Wisconsin System and Wisconsin Departments of Natural Resources, Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection, and Commerce seek proposals to two separate programmatic requests, the state’s Groundwater Research and Monitoring Program and the University of Wisconsin Water Resource Institute’s special call for climate-related water resource proposals. Proposals are due 11 November 2011.

LTDC Curricular Redesign

The University of Wisconsin System Learning Technology Development Council [LTDC] seeks proposals to support curriculum redesign and related faculty and staff development in the effective use of technology in teaching and learning. The LTDC advocates for effective and innovative use of technology in teaching and learning.

OPID Conference Development

The University of Wisconsin System Office of Professional and Instructional Development [OPID] seeks proposals to support programs that promote cooperation and exchange among System faculty and are focused on the enhancement of undergraduate teaching and learning. Programs are typically workshops, presentations, or mini-conferences on teaching-related subjects.

IRE Support Grants

The Institute on Race and Ethnicity [IRE] Support Grants fund four project areas: •Category A: Research, which support scholarly research on race, ethnicity, diversity, inclusivity, and/or equity by UW System faculty and staff; •Category B: Curriculum Development:, which support the development and teaching of new courses pertaining to race, ethnicity, diversity, inclusivity, and/or equity; •Category C: Campus Activities, which support miscellaneous campus activities and events that contr

PK-16 TQI

The University of Wisconsin System Administration seeks proposals to improve the preparation of classroom teachers, and the programs that prepare teachers, through the design and use of standards-based, performance assessments through the PK-16 Teacher Quality Initiative.

PK-16 TRRI

The University of Wisconsin System seeks proposals to increase the enrollment, and improve the retention and graduation of minorities in teacher preparation through the Teacher Recruitment and Retention Initiative [TRRI]. Priority will be given to proposals that demonstrate partnerships between relevant campus programs/offices and local K-12 school districts.

Solid Waste Research

Proposals are sought for research into alternative methods of solid waste disposal, including the reduction of the amount of solid waste generated, the reuse and recycling of materials, composting, source separation and the disposal of household hazardous waste. Proposals due 8 February 2012.

Student Solid Waste Research

Proposals are sought for research that has the potential of improving or expanding projects related to solid waste issues in Wisconsin including the reuse and recycling of materials; composting; waste reduction; and household hazardous waste disposal.
