Compliance 

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs act as a liaison between institutional officials, who have oversight over compliance issues, the various committees that monitor and oversee state and Federally-regulated research activities, and faculty, staff and students who conduct research. 

Research with Human Subjects

Faculty, staff, and students conducting research with human subjects can access information regarding Federal, University of Wisconsin System, and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater policies and procedures.  Also link to the campus’ Institutional Research Board for the Protection of Human Subjects (IRB) forms and protocol submission timeline, resources for developing an IRB protocol, and other resources designed to help researchers improve study design while protecting participants.

Research with Animals

Important resources, forms, and policies are provided to aid faculty, staff, and students conducting research with animals.  Information is provided regarding Federal, UW System, and UW-Whitewater policies and procedures.  Scholars can also connect to the campus’ Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) forms, resources for developing an IACUC animal study, and other materials to facilitate the design of sound research and compliance with the Animal Welfare Act.

Responsible Research

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is responsible for managing the campus’ Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training program.  RCR topics include research misconduct, data management, conflict of interest, collaborative science, responsible authorship, research mentoring, peer review, lab animals, and human subjects.  Faculty, staff, and students can also access information and best practices related to biosafety and ethics.

  • Research protocols (humans and animals) may be submitted anytime. 
  • Protocols are reviewed on an ongoing basis.
  • Research and Sponsored Programs will provide an update on meeting date and time as/if appropriate.
